Notorious pothole causing major damage to Houston-area drivers

PASADENA – The Houston area is no stranger to rough roads and potholes, but one stretch of road in Pasadena has a pothole that’s putting others to shame.

Along Red Bluff Road in Pasadena, hundreds of tires have met their end, thanks to a massive crater near a pothole.

Ellen Klassen had the misfortune of driving over the notorious trench, and it costed her not one, but two of her tires.

“It’s like you hit the bottom on something on your car,” Klassen said, describing the moment she collided with the hole.

As if the pavement cavern wasn’t bad enough, the road also contains many broken and missing curbs, some of which have jagged metal rebar sticking out in the open. With such harsh conditions, your tires barely have a fighting chance in the event of a wrong turn.

The pothole has cost drivers like Ellen hundreds of dollars in damages, but she is hoping the city can help pay her back.

Deer Park Plumbing, a business near the site of the pothole, receives consistent visits from victims pulling over after hitting the crater. The business has helped change the tires on as many as three separate cars in a single day.

The Pasadena Public Works Department released a statement regarding the city’s response to the particular pothole and other road damage around the area:

“Crews were immediately dispatched to go out and check the complaint. They are now already working on filing the voids around the manhole and removing the broken curb and rebar. Thy will be back out there tomorrow to complete some more work on the curbs.”
