1 person dead after car crashes into back of tow truck in southwest Houston, police say
HOUSTON โ One person is dead after a crash involving a tow truck in southwest Houston Thursday, police said. Officers said it happened on the Beltway near Gessner around 1 a.m. According to investigators, officers and a tow truck were assisting a car that broke down. While the wrecker was sitting in the shoulder of the freeway, officers said a Hyundai sedan came up from behind and slammed into the back of it. Police said the driver of the Hyundai died at the scene.
Ex-Philadelphia cop charged in fatal shooting of Black man
A white former Philadelphia police officer was charged Friday with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a Black man after a high-speed car chase nearly three years ago. Four other officers who were on the scene and had taken cover did not fire their weapons, according to a grand jury presentment. The grand jury said Ruch shot Plowden in the head without justification as Plowden looked โdazed and lost on the sidewalk." According to the grand jury, Ruch and his partner began following Plowden and asked police dispatch to check the registration of his car. Ruch fired the fatal shot just 6 to 8 seconds after getting to the crash scene, the grand jury said.

Flying taxis in the sky? Uber and Hyundai are working on it
Uber and Hyundai unveiled a flying taxi that may eventually transform your ridesharing trips. Hyundai is the latest big company to announce that it's developing a flying taxi for trips around cities and suburbs. In October, Hyundai appointed Jaiwon Shin, a longtime NASA administrator, to lead its newly created air taxi division. Batteries powering air taxis will need to deliver better range than currently available. Singh, who worked on self-driving cars before shifting to air taxis, says that autonomous flying vehicles are easier to develop in some respects.
US auto sales down 0.5% in May
U.S. auto sales dipped for the fifth month in a row in May, with a 0.5 percent decrease and more than 1.5 million vehicles sold, The Associated Press reported. General Motors, Fiat Chrysler, Hyundai and Toyota reported decreases in sales last month compared to May 2016. IHS Markit analyst Tom Libby told the AP that despite good economic factors, like low unemployment and gas prices, there could be a decrease in auto sales for all of 2017. The past two years saw record sales of about 17.5 million vehicles, which analysts say could account for the lack of demand, the AP reported. Libby's firm reduced its 2017 sales forecast from 17.4 million to 17.3 million, the AP reported.
