GALVESTON, Texas – Authorities said a body found in Galveston is believed to be that of a 16-year-old reported missing Saturday night. During a search for a missing 16-year-old, authorities on Sunday found a body in the surf near lifeguard tower 47 on Galveston Island. According to Galveston Island Beach Patrol Chief Peter Davis, the body found matches the description of the teen that went missing. The 16-year-old went missing Saturday night around 9:30 p.m.A family friend said the teen had been swimming with friends near the 4400 block of Seawall Blvd. The Galveston Police Department, Galveston Fire Department, Galveston Island Beach Patrol Galveston County EMS and the U.S. Coast Guard were among the agencies involved in the search for the missing teen.

HOUSTON – In compliance with Governor Greg Abbott’s plan to re-open Texas, Galveston beaches will soon be open to beachgoers. According to Chief Peter Davis with the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, he has instructed his lifeguards to switch gears. “Technically, we’re still in the prohibited time, but the city is transitioning.” Chief Davis said. “I’m going to try to bury myself in the sand,” Payes said. It’s just better to wait.”Since Galveston Beach closed, Chief Davis said beach patrol has been averaging about 200 calls a day for people being out on the beach, when they shouldn’t.
