Charges filed after driver in stolen vehicle crashes during NE Houston chase, killing woman in SUV

HOUSTON – Charges have been filed after a police chase ends in a crash that killed an innocent driver in Humble Wednesday evening.

According to Houston Police, police in Humble spotted a vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer, that had been reported stolen out of Houston. Humble police tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop and a chase began.

Multiple agencies were involved in the chase, including Houston PD, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Montgomery County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office.

At one point, the suspect stopped and let a female passenger out of the vehicle before continuing. The woman was taken into custody.

The suspect continued driving southbound in the northbound lanes of the feeder road of I-69 near Rankin Road. At this point, police discontinued the chase, leaving only a helicopter overhead to observe.

The driver crashed into a Kia Soul on the Eastex Freeway near Rankin Road. The driver of the Kia, a 40-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Houston police said she later died.

The victim has been identified as Esoterica Spivey.

A 43-year-old man who was a passenger in the Kia was also taken to a hospital.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, a 25-year-old man, was treated at Kingwood Hospital and then taken into custody.

The Houston Police Department is conducting the collision investigation. The Humble Police Department is filing the charges of Homicide and Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle
