But we got to the finish line back in mid-January with the Class 5A and 6A State Championships at AT&T Stadium. The lone state champ from Houston came in the form of the Katy Tigers, winning the Class 6A Division II State Championship over Cedar Hill. The Crosby Cougars were the other team to make it to the state title game for the first time in 60 years. So, who were the best of the best in H-Town in 2020? Jalen showed his leadership this season helping along his younger brother and sophomore QB Caleb Koger as well.
Katy football heads back to state championship
HOUSTON โ Five long years have passed since Katy High School has taken home the state championship trophy. Everybodyโs ready to go.โThe Davis brothers have taken center stage for the Tigers this season, as Jalen and Seth have led Katy to a score differential of more than 400. Of Haysโ 10 wins, four of them have come within seven points or less. Katyโs one loss was close (24-19 to Katy Tompkins), but all 11 wins have been by two touchdowns or more. โKaty is about winning state championships and thatโs what weโre trying to do,โ said safety Dalton Johnson.
VYPE Houston Playoff Central: Tompkins, Westfield move on, Regional Semi matchups set
This time around, the Falcons get defending Class 6A State Champion North Shore. North Shore pounced on undefeated Pearland Dawson on Thursday night, racing out to a 24-0 halftime lead and eventual 38-7 victory for the Mustangs. On Christmas Eve day, North Shore (12-0) will face Katy Tompkins (10-0) at Legacy Stadium with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. Last year they reached the State Quarterfinals, where they fell to North Shore in a wild 76-49 game. Westfield won the meeting 42-24 moving on to face the winner of Skyline and back-to-back state runner-up Duncanville next week.
Bracket Breakdown: VYPE's Favorites in Class 6A
Here are VYPE's Class 6A favorites! Cy-FairClass 6A Region III may be if not the hardest part of the bracket in the state. KatyWith Seven Lakes taking the final Division I spot out of District 19-6A, Katy got sent to the Division II bracket this year. The last time the Tigers won a state crown, which was back in 2015, it came in the DII bracket. The services of Davis & Davis will be leaned on.

Tompkins Falcons former boys basketball trio Bieniemy, Sjolund and White to reunite at UTEP
By VYPE U Keion CageWhat if I told you that the 2018 Texas high school state runner-up Katy Tompkins boys basketball team was able to reunite again? The Tompkins Falcons former trio of Jamal Bieniemy, Kristian Sjolund and Emmanuel White are getting back together, but this time the show will be El Paso, Texas with Miners across their chest. It has been over two years since Bieniemy, Sjolund, and White played together at Tompkins. Bieniemy, Sjolund and White friendship goes beyond the game of basketball. Their friendship played a key role that helped lead the Falcons to become the first Katy ISD boys basketball team to reach the state tournament.

Here are the finalists for Public School Boys and Girls Cross Country. GIRLS PLAYER OF THE YEAR NOMINEE- Carly Ahrens, KingwoodCarly Ahrens took eighth overall at the 2019 UIL Class 6A State Cross Country Meet. The freshman posted the best time on the Kingwood cross country team, which finished second overall just behind Southlake Carroll. BOYS PLAYER OF THE YEAR NOMINEE- Spencer Cardinal, The WoodlandsThe Woodlands' Spencer Cardinal finished 3rd overall at the UIL State Cross Country Meet.
