Prairie View A&M University golf program receives $40,000 boost from PGA Tour star
To help alleviate some of that expense for diverse communities, rising PGA Tour star Cameron Champ donated $40,000 to the Prairie View A&M University golf program. Champ played college golf at Texas A&M and is one of the few black golfers on the PGA Tour. He was tasked with bringing the Prairie View A&M golf team back to prominence after a near 40-year conference championship drought. “I want to be the first myself.”COVID-19 holdJennings has a young team, and many of his golfers have yet to see college competition due to COVID-19 cancellations. Jennings said there’s a lot of work to do with his young team, while Latham believes the Panthers have the talent to place well in the SWAC.

Prairie View A&M University president gifts Fifth Ward non-profit with $100,000 donation
HOUSTON – The president of Prairie View A&M University, Dr. Ruth Simmons, has gifted the Fifth Ward community with a major boost in an effort to help a non-profit founded 77 years ago. Simmons presented the Julia C. Hester House, a long-standing community center in the Fifth Ward area, a donation in the amount of $100,000 on Saturday. Simmons said the gift will help the organization continue to serve residents with a variety of programs, including child development, education, community swim classes, senior services and meal distributions. “My siblings and I owe a great deal to Julia C. Hester House," Simmons said. “We were both surprised and elated with gratitude when we received the news of this thoughtful donation.

Netflix CEO donates $120 million to black colleges in an effort to reverse generations of inequity
The CEO of Netflix says he will donate $120 million to historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), calling the gift "an investment in America's future." "We hope this additional $120 million donation will help more black students follow their dreams." They called on others to also support these institutions to help "reverse generations of inequity in our country." He urged people to watch a TED Talk from Dr. Phil Goff, who "works police departments to help public safety be more equitable and less deadly," according to TED Talks. Earlier this week, Netflix said it will donate $5 million "to organizations dedicated to creating opportunities for black creators, black youth and black-owned businesses, including Ghetto Film School, Black Public Media and Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights Camp," Variety reported.
