Texas Southern University, Southwest Airlines announce major partnership to bring pathway for next generation of pilots via recruitment program

HOUSTON – Texas Southern University is partnering with Southwest Airlines to bring a pathway for the next generation of pilots via a recruitment program.

The program, called “Destination 225°,” aims to provide an accessible pathway for graduates of TSU’s Aviation Science and Technology program, which includes certification to become a pilot.

TSU became the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to join the airline’s program, according to a news release.=

According to Southwest Airlines, “Destination 225°” allows aspiring pilots to gain flight experience and be trained to potentially become a Southwest Pilot. Four other universities, including the University of Oklahoma, and Arizona State University, have similar programs on campus.
