Metal recycler sends Navy Veteran coins made from old naval ships

Navy veterans coins (KPRC 2)

Houston – Our story about 92-year-old Navy war veteran Jessie Lara touched people across the country who wanted to thank him for his service.

One of those people is Chris Green. He is a Houston native who now lives in Brownsville where he runs a marine recycling company called EMR U.S.A.

Green sent Jessie a set of challenge coins made from the metals removed from old U.S. Naval ships when they were recycled.

There were coins from the USS Constellation, the USS Independence and the USS Tripoli, to name a few.

Volunteers with The Restoration Team, who spent months restoring Lara’s home, wanted to display the coins in Lara’s home.

They enlisted the help of Houstonian Roger Mowell to make a shadowbox to hold the coins. And it just so happens that Mowell revealed that he too served in the Korean War. He is also 92 years old.

When we shared the news with Green, he shipped another set of coins for Mowell.

KPRC 2 thanks both men for their service to our country.

In addition to recycling ships, EMR also buys all types of metals. They have locations in Houston, Liberty and Bryan.
