HOUSTON – Got a taste for all-you-can-eat crawfish or crab legs? The Bayou City is welcoming the taste of Louisiana once again with the Annual Cajun AF Festival on Saturday, April 3, 2021. Known for being one of the biggest seafood boils brought to Houston, the family-friendly event will be held at Live Oak Houston, located at 2533 Southmore Blvd. Over the past few years, nearly 2,000 seafood lovers have attended the festival for a feast of crawfish, crab, shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn, featuring entertainment from the city’s top DJs. Some passes are available free of charge, while other ticket options include all-you-can-eat crawfish or all-you-can-eat crab and shrimp, or both.

HOUSTON – Just because you can’t dine-in at restaurants, does not mean crawfish season is over early. Several restaurants are offering drive-thru pickup for seafood, including crawfish at cost-effective prices for their customers. After a successful last weekend, Levi Goode, owner of the restaurant, announced that both locations will be doing another drive-thru crawfish boil this Saturday and Sunday starting at noon. Crawfish packs are $20 for 2.5-pound bags and $70 for family packs. There are so many names: crayfish, crawdads, mudbugs, ditchbugs, freshwater lobsters, mountain lobsters, and yabbies. The Dictionary of American English, or DARE, surveyed several ways in which different crawfish names were inspired by different dialects of the South. Historically, “crayfish” and “crawfish” come from an old French word “escrevisse”, which was modified over time.

A Louisiana girl’s guide to crawfish in Houston
When I moved to Houston 15 years ago, I was worried it might be difficult to get my mudbug fix here. Here is a list of my favorite places serving crawfish right now. I have had crawfish at both Houston locations (Richmond Avenue and Westchase), and they are both delicious. Melissa said the crawfish at this spot in The Heights has big, hot and spicy crawfish. The crawfish comes highly recommended from my friends Byron Nichols (this dude is an authority on crawfish y’all) and Rich Mendenhall.
