Woman followed from bank, robbed in store parking lot

HOUSTON – A pair of men who were arrested Tuesday, and now charged, had very little to say after they were busted.

Investigators said two bank jugging suspects followed a woman from a bank on Westheimer Road to another nearby business parking lot.

When the woman went inside, police said Reginald Potts and Damien Wheatfall broke into her car and stole her property, just before being arrested by officers.

Police said Potts and Wheatfall are believed to be involved in numerous other bank jugging crimes.

As it turns out, they're no strangers to the law.

They have a laundry list of priors and mugshots, everything from assault causing bodily injury to burglary of a habitation and theft.

Unfortunately, the president elect of the Houston Police Union said like many other jugging suspects -- the penalties often don't match the crime.

"It's like a rotating door. They get low bond amounts and reoffend repeatedly and there's no incentive for them not to be doing this. They're getting no jail time on these sentences," Joe Gamaldi, president elect of HPOU said.

That's why with the holiday season in full swing and more folks out shopping, they're being reminded to be on the lookout for these types of crimes.

And for the suspects looking to do the stealing, police have a message for you, too.

"We have the best police officers in the entire world and we going to keep catching them. So you keep going out there and prey on these citizens, were going to be there to protect them and were going to be there to lock you up," Gamaldi said.
