Taxi ride-sharing app being considered by Houston

HOUSTON – A new ride-sharing app may be coming to Houston.

The app, which is being considered by City Council, would pit local taxi and limo drivers against the Uber app.

The Ttransportation, Technology and Infrastructure Council Committee met Monday.

Much like Uber, the app would allow you to request a ride via your smartphone, but unlike Uber you will be getting a ride in a licensed taxi.

Members of the committee said the app could make getting around the city easier, especially with Houston hosting the Super Bowl in February.

The app will go up for a City Council vote next week.

If approved, it's expected to be available by the end of the year.
