Woman charged with intoxication manslaughter after father dies in crash

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A woman was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter after her father died in a crash while she was driving on Friday in northwest Harris County, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were dispatched to the crash in the 36000 block of Hempstead Road around 11 p.m.

Shelley Buttram, 51, was suspected of driving while intoxicated and was charged with intoxication manslaughter in this deadly crash. Her bond was set at $50,000.

She was driving a Mazda Miata, and her 85-year-old father was in the vehicle with her. Buttram turned left on Hempstead Road to make a U-turn or turn into a driveway, then a BMW crashed into the Mazda.

Buttram’s father was injured in the crash, and he died on his way to the hospital. Buttram was then arrested.

This incident is under investigation.
