2 dead after League City crash involving wrong-way driver on I-45

Two people died after a crash involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 45 on Saturday in League City, Texas, according to police. (KPRC)

LEAGUE CITY, Texas – Two people died after a head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 45 on Saturday in League City, Texas, according to police.

League City police was called to the scene after two vehicles crashed on I-45 southbound at FM 646 around 3:21 a.m.

Officers said a Toyota sedan had been going the wrong way on the highway and crashed with a Volkswagen sedan. The Toyota then became engulfed in flames, but the fire was contained.

There was a woman driving the Toyota, and a man was a passenger. The man died at the scene, and the woman was taken to a local hospital.

The driver of the Volkswagen also died. The victims’ names have not been released.

All southbound lanes of I-45 are closed at FM 646. Drivers should avoid the area.
