Mother seeks answers after someone ruined her son’s memorial by stealing his helmet from scene of deadly crash

HOUSTON – A family is searching for answers after a thief stole from a memorial set up to honor their loved one’s life.

Jayson Mumme died last month in a motorcycle crash on Dixie Farm Road at Hastings Friendswood Drive in Pearland on Nov. 6.

Four days after the crash, Jason’s family set up a memorial in the area where he died.

At the memorial site, Jason’s family placed his helmet which had been signed by his loved ones, many of whom had flown in from across the country to celebrate Jason’s life.

Last Thursday, his mother was given more gut-wrenching news when she found out that someone had stolen the helmet from her son’s memorial.

“The helmet was bolted on, so somebody really wanted it. They must have pried it off,” Jason’s mother, Lisa said. “Who would do something like that to a memorial, to somebody that lost their life, you know? Like, [that’s] somebody that doesn’t have a heart. I just don’t understand why you would do that.”

Jason’s family said that they are now offering a $500 cash reward—for the return of the stolen helmet—no questions asked—because they say the priceless piece is sentimental—and they just want it back.
