Charges filed against woman accused in murders of couple, child killed in home invasion as 10-year-old plays dead

HOUSTON – A woman has been charged in a 2021 home invasion that left a couple and their 6-year-old child shot to death, and a 10-year-old girl injured, according to records.

Alexus Williams, 29, was charged with three counts of capital murder, in addition to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for her role in the triple homicide that happened on June 30, 2021, according to charging documents.

Xavier Davis, 28, who was arrested in 2021, was also charged with three counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex located at 12101 Fondren Rd.

Investigators said a 10-year-old girl told relatives a man knocked on the door of her family’s home, and when her father answered, he came inside.

The father, Gregory Carhee, mother Donyavia Lagway, and the couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Harmony, were all fatally shot.

Police said the 10-year-old, who was shot in the arm, played dead and then FaceTimed her grandmother and other relatives around 10:30 p.m. saying she had been shot inside. The grandmother then called police.

Paramedics rushed the girl to the hospital in stable condition. A 1-year-old was also inside the apartment, but was not harmed, investigators said. The girl told officers the shooter picked the baby up and put him on the couch before opening fire.

Sean Teare, chief of the Vehicular Crime’s Unit with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, said Houston police diligently worked the case since last June to determine a motive.

“For Xavier Davis, the motive was simply money. What we’ve been able to gather is that Alexus Williams promised him that there were several thousand dollars in that apartment,” Teare said. “She told him that whatever he was able to get was his. It was simply greed for Xavier Davis.”

Teare said William’s motive was more personal.

“We believe that she had some type of relationship with the mother, Donyavia Lagway. We believe that that ended poorly about a week prior to these murders,” he said. “We know that Alexus Williams spent numerous nights and times over there at that apartment prior to a week before the shootings.”

Teare said Williams used Davis to help her get revenge. He said what’s unclear is whether she solely wanted revenge against Lagway or everyone else in that apartment, including the children.

“We know that Xavier Davis was in that apartment for a number of minutes. We know that for the vast majority of those minutes he was on Facetime with Alexus Williams,” Teare said. “She was able to watch either the murders or either the immediate aftermath of the murders.”
