HOUSTON - Houston’s City Council approved a firetruck service and repair contract Wednesday that is designed to improve the state of the city’s emergency fleet.
The three-year contract with REVRT C Inc. is worth up to just under $2 million and covers 71 Houston Fire Department "E-One" brand firetrucks.
The city uses multiple brands of firetrucks.
A source within the Houston Professional Firefighters Association, said that only 12 of the trucks covered by the multimillion-dollar maintenance contract are actually front line units, while the rest are currently used as reserves.
A Channel 2 Investigation earlier this year found the city’s aging firetruck fleet is in less than ideal condition, but recently the city has agreed to purchase new equipment.
