Brookshire mayor under scrutiny after turning himself in

BROOKSHIRE, Texas – The mayor of Brookshire surrendered after a warrant for his arrest was issued late last week, Channel 2 Investigates has learned.

Eric Scott, mayor of the small town of approximately 5,500 people, was released on a personal recognizance bond, according to a law enforcement source.

According to multiple sources, Scott got into an altercation with a member of the Brookshire Police Department during the storm.

He was barred from entering an emergency operations area at the Police Department after disagreements with other city leaders about how to handle preparations for the storm, according to a city government source.

Brookshire City Council is slated to take up the matter later this week.

"Because I sit on City Council and we have an executive session on this Thursday, and I may have to vote, I would probably not like to comment at this time," councilmember, Kim Branch, said.

Critics of the mayor said Monday, he did not take adequate steps to prepare the city for the impact of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey.

"The first thing he said was the storm wasn't coming. He had no evacuation plan and he had no shelter in place," the Rev. Lee Jones, said.

Mayor Scott already is already involved in another pending criminal investigation regarding a door-slamming incident when the city secretary was injured, according to a law enforcement source.

In 2014, Scott had on odd incident at a neighboring town's Whataburger.
