Man found shot to death inside stolen SUV, authorities say

HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after one man was found dead in a neighborhood in northwest Harris County.

The incident happened just before 4 a.m. Friday at a home on Windfern Road and Windfern Trace Drive, authorities said.

Deputies said they received multiple calls from residents who heard multiple gunshots in the area.

When they arrived, a neighbor directed authorities to an SUV that had gone off the roadway and crashed into nearby foliage, authorities said.

Inside the vehicle, they found one man in the backseat. He is believed to be in his late teens or early 20s and had been shot to death, deputies said.

In the road, authorities said they found dozens of shell casings.

"There were multiple shots fired," said Sgt. Greg Pinkins with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "We haven't even begun counting them all it was so many."

Upon further investigation, authorities learned the SUV had been reported stolen out of the Katy area on Wednesday.

While at the scene, authorities said they received a call from a hospital about a young man who had been transported with several gunshot wounds. Investigators learned that the young man had also been inside the SUV at the time of the shooting.

He is in serious condition but is expected to survive, authorities said.

Deputies believe the shooting happened between the SUV and a white sedan. It is unclear if the young men were victims or suspects.

Two firearms were recovered from the SUV and shell casings from a pistol and a long gun were also found at the scene. Authorities did not say if the casings were from the two guns that were recovered.

Investigators are still waiting to speak with the man who was transported to the hospital.

The man who was killed has not yet been identified.

Investigators are working to learn more details. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
