VIDEO: 89-year-old brutally beaten for his wallet; $5K reward offered to crack the case

HOUSTON – An 89-year-old man was brutally beaten earlier this month on a Houston street, video from the Houston Police Department shows.

Guilebalbo Herrera, 89, in the 7300 block of Fauna Street, walking home from his son’s house, when a man whom he’d previously seen in the neighborhood approached him, police said.

Police said the man began to make small talk as he led Herrera to the side of Herrera's house and then demanded his wallet.

When the Herrera resisted, the man threw him to the ground and assaulted him, punching him and placing his knee on his face as he pushed it into the ground.

Herrera told KPRC2 on Monday that he now has two bruises on his head and some on his neck. He said he could not eat for days because the attack left him unable to open his mouth.

After being assaulted, Herrera passed out and the man reached into his pockets and stole his wallet. Herrera said the man got away with $100, police said. Herrera regained consciousness minutes later and was able to walk to his home on his own, said a family member.

The thief is described as a 30-to 35-years-old man who has been seen around the area of Villa Drive and Fauna Street.

Crime Stoppers may pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the charging and/or arrest of the suspect in this case. Information may be called in at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or submitted online at www.crime-stoppers.org.
