Widow of slain clerk chooses forgiveness over hate

HOUSTON – One of the two men seen in surveillance video images has been caught in connection with the murder of Metro Food Mart store clerk Faruk Bhuiya.

Jose Bonilla Ortiz, 18, is charged with murder.

According to U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Ortiz is from Honduras and is in the country illegally.

“Nothing is going to bring my husband back,” said Farouk Bhuiya’s widow, Phyllis Bhuiya.

Bhuiya said the arrest won't bring her closure, but she is glad Ortiz won't be hurting anyone else.

“I’m happy he is caught because that makes the streets just a little less dangerous. I just want the other kid to get caught,” Bhuiya said.

Bhuiya said despite the pain she is going through, she decided to choose forgiveness over anger because that is what she said her husband would want her to do.

“I have an array of emotions because I miss him. I miss his calmness and I can feel him saying to me and telling me forgive these people, don’t carry hate,” Bhuiya said.
