HOUSTON – A teenager died after a car crash that shut down the Katy Freeway for several hours Sunday morning.

The crash happened around 2:40 a.m., according to police.

Witnesses told authorities that a 19-year-old woman was driving a white Pontiac GT westbound near 11600 Katy Freeway when she lost control, failed to maintain a single lane and started to spin. The vehicle struck a red Chevrolet Silverado truck, continued to spin and then was struck by a white Nissan Maxima, authorities said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Silverado was treated at the scene.

The driver of the Maxima and a passenger were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
