Day care worker accused of slamming 4-year-old girl on ground

Investigators: Attack caught on surveillance video

SPRING, TEXAS – A day care worker is in jail, accused of slamming a child to the ground.

The alleged incident happened at the Children's Lighthouse Daycare on Waterbend Cove in Spring.

A video recovered shows Gregory Diglin grabbing a 4-year-old girl by the arm and slamming her to the ground, the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable's Office said.

The child's face hit the floor, causing her to scream in pain, the Constable's Office also said.

Surveillance video released in day care abuse case

"The child has sustained injuries to the face and mouth area, busted lips, damage to the gums, featured dental damage as well," Chief Matt Rodrigue with Montgomery County Constables Office, Precinct 3.

"There were other staff within the child care center on duty at the time but there were no others in the room when this occurred," Rodrigue said.

In what appears to be an attempt to disguise his assault, officers said Diglin then took the girl across the room and tried to clean up her blood.

When her parents came to pick her up, officers said this is the story they got:

"When the parents picked up the child from the day care center, they were provided a form from the daycare center saying the child had basically hurt themselves by tumbling within the classroom," Rodrigue said.

Officials said the child revealed the truth, and investigators found the video that soon confirmed every parents’ worst nightmare.

"This is something you never want to see especially when you talk about leaving your children in the care of others. So it's a disturbing video to watch to say the least," Rodrigue said.

Investigators said there may be other children who have been injured and want them to come forward.

Channel 2 spoke to one parent, Claire Burke, who said her 5-year-old daughter was in Diglin's class, most likely at the time of the assault.

Burke says she hasn't seen the video, but she doesn't think her daughter was ever injured. She says it's scary, but doesn't plan to take her out of the daycare.

"It's upsetting, disgraceful, especially working at a daycare. Hopefully he gets what he deserves," Burke said. "I don't have any concerns about the other teachers there, and I won’t pull her out of school because of their curriculum. And I feel like now they'll be more secure there."

Diglin is being held in Montgomery County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

As far as the daycare, we're told they will have to go through certain channels with the state after what happened.

Channel 2 tried talking to the employees at the daycare, but they are not commenting.
