SPRING, Texas – Consider Allen Roch to have been in the right place at the right and wrong time.
"It happened pretty fast. They started smashing the glass," Roch said. "I was returning some stuff that I got for Christmas, and I thought today would be a good day you go in and return it and here I am."
Roch was at Zales as three masked men rushed in around 1:30 p.m.
Sky 2 hovered above the jewelry store on the North Freeway in Shenandoah on Thursday afternoon.
Police say the men moved quickly, smashing display cases with sledgehammers.
"They grabbed as much jewelry as they possibly could," Roch said. "There was a guy watching the doorway telling everybody to take your time take your time. Then they couldn't get through the glass. Then the glass started breaking. Then he's like OK, let's go. Let's go!"
They went, but not quick enough.
He jotted down their license number and called police, who eventually spotted them.
Then there was a chase.

That brought us to a second scene on I-45 and Sawdust.
Police said the getaway car struck a tree and crashed into a truck, flipping it over.
Medics treated the driver of the truck at the scene. She's expected to be OK.
Police said all of the stolen jewelry was recovered when the men were taken into custody.
Wayland Smith, 39, Junior Daye-Johnson, 25, Donte Davis, 24, and Dextrek Walker, 22, are being held in the Montgomery County Jail on aggravated robbery and evading charges.
Montgomery County Gang Investigators said that three of the four men taken into custody are known gang members.
The arrests was made, in part police say, because of the quick-thinking Roch.
"Stay calm and don't panic," Roch said. "Whenever they all left, I figured they're trying to get away. So it's my time to try to get some information."
