20 train cars derail in Missouri City

MISSOURI CITY, Texas – Crews were working Thursday morning to clean up debris left by a train that derailed in Missouri City.

Twenty box cars jumped the tracks about 5 p.m. Wednesday near Heirloom Rose Lane at Steep Bank Trace in the Sienna Plantation neighborhood.

Officials said there was no dangerous cargo inside the cars, which were part of a Burlington Northern train. The cars ended up on both sides of the track, and one car was upside down.

The cleanup could cause delays along Steep Bank Trace and Poets Corner, officials said.

The cause of the derailment was under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
