HOUSTON โ€“ Nonprofits and organizations serving communities of color in the Houston area can now apply for $5 million in grants through the Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Awards. Applications opened Tuesday, and Chick-Fil-A said grants range from $50,000 to $350,000. Organizations in the U.S. and Canada that are currently making an impact in the areas of hunger, homelessness and education are encouraged to apply. The True Inspiration Awards were created to carry on Chick-fil-A Founder S. Truett Cathyโ€™s legacy of generosity and community service. Since 2015, Chick-fil-A has awarded $290,000 in the Houston area.

HOUSTON โ€“ The KPRC 2 team received a whopping 30 Lone Star EMMY nominations Friday, including in the prestigious โ€œOverall Excellence," โ€œNews Excellence" and โ€œCommunity Service,โ€ categories. Our station has received the most nominations of all the TV stations in Houston and has the second-most nominations in the state. The Lone Star Chapter is part of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and describes itself as โ€œthe standard-bearers for excellence in the television broadcasting industry and the gatekeepers of the prestigious regional EMMY Awards in Texas.โ€ It serves 19 television markets in Texas and includes members from TV-related fields including news and non-news broadcasting, according to its website. A virtual award ceremony is set for November.

The contest โ€” Local Media Digital Innovation Awards โ€” is a highly competitive contest that recognizes the best in local digital media across the country. KPRC 2 and Click2houston.com competed against other large local media organizations. The award: Recognizes the best digital news project that displays captivating, innovative, and intentional storytelling. The platform and model were used effectively not only to engage with readers but also to build branding and content strategy for the station.

A Fort Bend ISD student has been named a winner of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition. Kaylee Yu, who is a sophomore at Austin High School, won the competition for her oil painting titled โ€œLeap of Faith.โ€Fort Bend ISD announced Yuโ€™s award-winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S Capitol in Washington, D.C. for an entire year. Over the past eight years, six Fort Bend ISD high school students have been named winners in Olsonโ€™s district competition.
