Massive Menorah car parade for the first night of Hanukkah: Where to watch in Houston
HOUSTON โ As the first night of Hanukkah takes place Thursday night, a southwest Houston synagogue wants to celebrate the heroes of the year with a special car parade. The historical riot was the spark that helped ignite Houstonโs first gay and lesbian organization in the early 70s. However, the city didnโt celebrate its first parade celebration almost a decade later.
Galveston Ball High school seniors honored with parade while decked out in cap and gowns
GALVESTON, Texas โ The 2020 Senior class at Galveston Ball High School was honored Wednesday with a parade along the Seawall. Students and their parents lined the Galveston Seawall, which was decked out in their purple and gold as a parade of vehicles filled with high school and district officials honking and waving. We feel very special,โ said senior Xavier Esquivel. It wasnโt quite what students had pictured when the school year started but it will be a memory they said they will never forget. School officials said they plan to hold a graduation ceremony on June 11.
Here are the downtown Houston road closures for Houston Rodeo Parade
HOUSTON โ Several streets will be expected closed Saturday morning for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Ride, Run and Parade. The Rodeo Run wheelchair division begins at 9:10 a.m. followed by the 10K race and 5K fun run/walk. The downtown Houston Rodeo Parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Bagby Street heading east on Walker Street, south on Travis Street, west on Bell Street, north on Louisiana Street, west on Lamar Street, concluding on Lamar Street at Bagby Street. The parade began at 10 a.m. in Downtown Houston, starting on Smith and Lamar streets. Houstonโs MLK parade was the first held in the nation after being sanctioned by the King family in 1978. The parade featured more than 250 performance groups, including 36 marching bands and 14 parade floats from across the nation.
