Houston officials announce final Super Bowl LI preps

HOUSTON – Crews at Discovery Green are putting the final touches for the opening of Super Bowl Live on Monday.

The big, nine-day fan festival will include everything from free concerts performances and even "Future Flight," a 90-foot-tall virtual reality trip to Mars.

"All of this information is available at the Super Bowl LI app. Just download that app because we want you to know ... before you go," Sallie Sargent, the president and CEO of the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee, said at a press conference Monday.

"This is the day when it all starts to become real," Peter O'Reilly, a representative for the National Football League, said at that same press conference.

The George R. Brown Convention Center will host the "NFL Experience," a paid, interactive pro football theme park. Both the NFL Experience and Super Bowl Live will kick off on Saturday.

"The Super Bowl is coming so I can definitely feel that," Nancy Aguirre said while taking her family on a stroll of Discovery Green. "It's really nice to be able to walk around and kind of feel like, even if you are not going to the actual game, it's nice to be able to still kind of feel like 'we're here.'"

And the feeling of excitement was palpable.

"I think it's wonderful. It always brings a lot of people to the city," said David Flores, who also was taking his family around Discovery Green.

Sargent wants everyone to know there are tickets still on sale for the Patriots-Falcons game. You might even receive a limited edition box featuring a highlight video of the past 50 Super Bowls with your tickets inside.
