The other finalists for AL MVP were Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez.

Altuve collected 27 of 30 possible first-place votes.

Judge was the runner-up.

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton was named the 2017 NL MVP after his 59-homer campaign. Reds first baseman Joey Votto finished second in voting.

Altuve won the AL batting title for the third time by posting a .346 average and collecting 204 hits, which was also tops in the AL.

Altuve stole 32 bases, knocked in 81 runs and scored 112 runs himself. He also tied a career high with 24 homers and struck out only 84 times in 662 plate appearances.

Judge struck out 208 times in 678 plate appearances while hitting .284 with 54 homers and 114 RBIs.

Altuve was the offensive catalyst for the World Series champion Astros who knocked Judge's Yankees out of the playoffs in a epic seven-game American League Championship Series.

Altuve becomes the first player in franchise history to win the American League MVP award and the second Astro to win the MVP, joining Jeff Bagwell, who won the National League Award in 1994.

Altuve becomes one of just five American League second basemen to win the award, joining Dustin Pedroia (BOS, 2008), Nellie Fox (CWS, 1959), Joe Gordon (NYY, 1942) and Charlie Gehringer (DET, 1937).

In his career, Altuve has earned five All-Star Game appearances (three starts), four Silver Slugger Awards, a Gold Glove Award, three batting titles and two stolen base titles.
