HOUSTON – The Houston Texans are bringing back a legend.
Andre Johnson is joining the coaching staff for the upcoming season.
Johnson will be a special adviser to head coach Bill O'Brien and general manager Brian Gaine.
He will help coach and scout, among other duties.
Johnson joins a group of four former Texans now on the football staff. Brian Cushing (asst. strength & conditioning & player development), T.J. Yates (offensive assistant) & Akeem Dent (defensive assistant) were all hired this offseason.
Johnson played 12 seasons for the Texans. He is the inaugural member of the Texans ring of honor, having been inducted on Nov. 19, 2017.
Johnson retired in 2016 after 14 seasons in the NFL, including his first 12 seasons in Houston. With the Texans, Johnson had 1012 receptions, 13,597 receiving yards and 64 touchdown receptions. Each of those figures represents a franchise record.
He was drafted by Houston with the third overall pick in the 2003 NFL draft.
