Rockets draft USC point guard De'anthony Melton with 46th pick of 2018 NBA draft

NEW YORK – The Rockets entered Thursday night’s NBA draft holding just one second round selection in the two-round draft.

As expected, they stood pat at No. 46, selecting guard De’Anthony Melton from USC, but they also made a second selection.

They acquired the 52nd pick from the Utah Jazz and selected Purdue senior forward Vincent Edwards.

Melton played just his freshman season at USC in 2016-17, before sitting out last season while an ongoing NCAA investigation was taking place regarding a bribery case. Melton left USC in February of 2018, roughly a month after he’d been given a suspension for the entire season.

In his lone season with the Trojans, Melton averaged 8.3 points and 3.5 assists in 36 games.

Edwards already tweeted his excitement for being selected by the Rockets saying "I’ll be a Houston Rocket this coming year! HTOWN!!!!!”

He was a 2nd-team all-Big Ten selection as a senior and made nearly 40 percent of his 3-point shots (173-441, 39.2 percent) during his Boilermaker career.
