Survey shows adults split on issue of disciplining children

Some people believe the answer depends on the situation.

If the child is misbehaving at a friend's house, and his or her parents aren't around, many believe it is okay for the adults in the home to discipline the child.

If the child is acting out in public, however, people think any punishment - verbal or otherwise - should be left to the discretion of the child's parent.
