Dunkin' Donuts manager, husband killed in apparent murder-suicide near Memorial Park, police say

HOUSTON – A manager at a Rice Military Dunkin Donuts was shot and killed in a murder-suicide, Houston police said.

The shooting was reported just before noon at the Memorial Drive location, police said.

"Our preliminary indications are that this was a senseless and tragic act of domestic violence perpetrated by an individual with a known relationship and a history of domestic violence toward the victim," said Lt. Zachary Becker, with the Houston Police Department Homicide Division.

The manager of the location was working when her husband came inside and shot her, and then shot himself, police said.

"We have confirmed from people who knew the victim that there was a history of serious domestic violence against her but we'll have some follow-up to confirm whether or not she sought help with that in the past," Becker said.

A heavy police presence inside and outside the store could be seen from SKY 2 on Friday.

"There was an employee there who did witness the incident, but no other persons were threatened or injured," Becker said.

Resident Forrest Walker couldn't help but worry. The Dunkin' Donuts is on his regular route to Memorial Park.

"I passed by on my way to Memorial Park about two hours ago," Walker said. "If I was passing 20 minutes earlier, I probably could have caught it."
