HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The men and women who clean and protect our city facilities took a stand Monday outside City Hall.
Security officers and janitors employed by city-funded contractors held a news conference Monday afternoon to speak out about wage theft complaints filed with the inspector general's office.

The employees voiced their concerns, which claim that employers have been underpaying workers for years in violation of both the city of Houston's wage theft ordinance and their agreements with the city.
"I believe winning higher wages, quality health care and respect at work for these workers will improve contracting standards, increase quality of service, lower the high turnover rate and uplift our community," Mustafa Carroll, with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said.
Protestors said the complaints are in violation of both the city of Houston's wage theft ordinance and their agreements with the city.
The men and women who clean and protect city facilities have launched a new campaign to unite 3,500 union janitors in the state.
