Restaurant Report Card: Unsafe food temperatures, roaches prompt fines from Health Department

HOUSTON – Question: Why do Houston health inspectors always carry a thermometer?

Because if the food you’re going to order is stored off temperature it can be dangerous.

Health inspectors found a temperature problem at Neighbor’s Kitchen at 4410 Westway Park Blvd.

The walk-in-cooler was registering 55 degrees, and that is way too warm to be safe.

Fresh food is supposed to be kept at 41 degrees or lower.

The order was given to quarantine the cooler.

Trouble with temperatures also the issue at the Saltgrass Steak House on Tomball Parkway.

Health inspectors found food not safe for human consumption.

They quickly condemned 18 pounds of strip steak, crab cakes, blue cheese, rice and asparagus.

This week, we paid a visit to the folks at A Ly Oriental Food on Bellaire Boulevard, where inspectors found an insect problem.

The health inspectors found both live and dead cockroaches on the floor of the kitchen and inside the storage area.

The restaurant told KPRC that professional pest control has been brought in.

Health inspectors are not loving the German Cockroaches they spotted at McDonald’s in the 10000 block of the Northwest Freeway.

The insects were found behind the soda dispenser and near the wheels of the beverage unit.

And finally, it’s the Sonic Drive-In at 1054 Uvalde Road, where inspectors found black dirt in the ice machine, and you better believe they condemned it.
