HOUSTON – U.S. Rep. Al Green, D-Houston, on Wednesday called President Donald Trump’s statements regarding North Korea “reckless.”
After Tuesday’s news that North Korea had developed a nuclear warhead capable of fitting inside its long-range missiles, Trump promised “fire and fury” will meet any threat from the secretive country.
North Korea responded with news that it was “examining” a plan to attack the U.S. territory of Guam.
Green spoke about the escalating tensions at a news conference.
"I’m concerned about our country. I’m concerned about our military,” Green said. “I’m concerned because or president has made some comments that are, at minimum, reckless. Comments that can lead us to a war."
Green urged Trump to walk back on his comments.
He asked for time for congress to weigh in on the issue. Green said negotiations should continue and the president should give time for diplomacy to work.
