Accused machete-wielding man faces charges after police-involved shooting in Pasadena

PASADENA, Texas – A Pasadena police officer shot a man Wednesday night during a narcotics investigation in Pasadena, police said.

Officials said a narcotics officer served a warrant for controlled substances about 7 p.m. at 1124 London St. Police said that when the officer entered the home, he was approached by Carlos Briones, who was holding a machete.

When the officer demanded that Briones drop the weapon and he didn't comply, the officer shot him once in the stomach with a department-issued M4, police said.

According to authorities, Briones was taken to a Bayshore hospital and was treated for his injury.

Police said they recovered a large amount of narcotics from the home.

Briones faces charges of aggravated assault of a police officer, according to authorities.

Police also arrested Juan Araguz, 38, on the scene and charged him with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
