Northwest Harris County couple separated by storm reunited

Rusty Boyd made decision to stay behind at couple's house with 2 dogs

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A northwest Harris County couple separated at the height of the storm has been reunited.

"My husband's in the house, he's diabetic, we have no communication, and he won't go," Nancy Boyd told KPRC 2, shortly after stepping out of a rescue boat outside the Norchester neighborhood, near Jones Road, Sunday.

Rusty Boyd, 75, deaf in one ear, blind in one eye, with one good arm and no insulin, made the decision to stay behind at the couple's house with their two dogs.

"On the boat, they were saying, 'Come on! Come on!' but I was saying, 'Go on,' I will stay here," Boyd said.

When a neighbor found him Monday morning, he was in rough shape and in need of medical attention.

Boyd said that he did not want his various medical conditions to hinder rescue operations or inconvenience others.

"He's always been like that, stubborn," Nancy Boyd said.

They were reunited when Rusty Boyd was dropped off in a parking lot with other rescuees, and Nancy Boyd walked 2 miles to meet him.

Unfortunately, one of their dogs is missing and like others on their street, the Boyds had about 4 feet of water in their home.

They will spend months rebuilding, but they'll be doing it together.

"I'm very blessed to have him," Nancy Boyd said.
