Man who crashed van in woods dies after being struck by vehicle on Eastex Freeway, police say

HOUSTON – A man was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Eastex Freeway on Saturday, according to Houston police.

Police said the driver of the vehicle that initially hit the man didn't stop at the scene.

A witness told police they saw the victim driving a van the wrong way on the Eastex Freeway ramp and service road around 10:30 p.m.

The witness said the van went off the roadway and crashed into a wooded area. The driver of the van attempted to run across the northbound lanes of the freeway, but was struck by a vehicle. The driver of that vehicle did not stop at the scene, police said.

Two other vehicles struck the man while he was in the street, according to police.

Those drivers stopped at the scene and were determined to not be impaired. They were released without being charged.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
