In the email, the company apologized for the incident that affected thousands of people.

They also said they will provide a $5 credit per account to those who were affected. AT&T said the credit will be automatically added to customers’ accounts in one to two billing cycles.

“We’re also taking steps to prevent this from happening again in the future. Our priority is to continuously improve and be sure you stay connected. For more information, please visit att.com/makeitright,” AT&T said.

The company added the outage was caused due to an error in coding, according to NBC Bay Area.

Outage tracker Downdetector showed that about 73,000 people reported an outage at one point.
