HOUSTON – Two teenagers were injured in a shooting at a southeast Houston restaurant on Wednesday, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police were called to a restaurant on Cullen Boulevard around 5:15 p.m.
When they arrived, they found a 13-year-old girl had been shot in the arm, and a 15-year-old boy had been shot in the chest.
Investigators said this all started as a fight between two groups of mostly teenage girls at the Whales Wings and Seafood, then a man barged in with a gun.
“It just makes me feel sick to my stomach that this could happen to anybody,” said Nakayra Maxey whose brother was shot.
KPRC 2 obtained video from a witness. Maxey said it shows what started off as an altercation between two groups of teens quickly turned violent.
“And then the man, you see him pull out a gun, and the gun is like right here on my sister’s face. But, then they get pushed back and he’s running back up toward the scene. My little brother runs in because he sees the man trying to run and get to my sister and my mama, so (my brother) pushed the (suspect) back, but he got shot in the process.
The bullet that struck the boy possibly went through his body and struck the girl.
“Both teenagers were transported to area hospitals. The male is going to be in critical condition right now, the female is going to be in stable condition,” HPD Assistant Chief Megan Howard said.
He is expected to have surgery.
While it’s unclear what the fight was about, officials said it spilled over from another location and that the man who pulled the trigger was in some way affiliated with someone who was involved in the altercation.
“You put a gun to a young girl’s face and then you turn around, because he’s saving his sister you shoot him in the chest? A kid,” said Shelia Jenkins whose grandson was shot.
Police said they are hoping the suspect turns himself in, so he can provide his side of the story.
