Madison High School experienced consecutive days of lockdown due to escalating fights among students.

On Thursday, parents received a message from Principal Contreras informing them about the first lockdown at Madison High School. The lockdown was initiated as a precautionary measure following two altercations in different areas of the campus.

These incidents were reportedly linked to student disputes, prompting the administration to temporarily secure the school.

Principal Edgar Contreras assured parents that students were safe, the building was secure, and normal instructional activities resumed after the lockdown was lifted.

However, the relief was short-lived as Madison High School found itself in the midst of another lockdown on the following day. This time, the lockdown was attributed to disruptions caused by students who were disgruntled about the newly implemented cell phone policy. In a statement sent to parents on Friday, faculty explained that the decision to ban the use of cell phones during school hours was a proactive measure to curb the role of phones in recent fights on campus.

Principal Contreras emphasized that the school’s priority is to ensure the safety of both students and staff. The new cell phone policy requires students to turn in their phones at the front office upon arrival and retrieve them at dismissal.
