Man accused of shooting rifle at teen son, firing at off-duty Humble ISD officer who tried to intervene in NE Harris Co.

HOUSTON – A search is underway for a man accused of shooting at his son after an argument and then firing at a Humble ISD police officer who was trying to intervene in northeast Harris County Thursday, authorities said.

The Harris County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office responded to reports of a shooting in the 13100 block of Yaupon Holly Lane at around 10:20 p.m.

Deputies said when they arrived at the scene, they discovered that an off-duty Humble ISD officer had discharged her weapon while attempting to take a shooting suspect in custody.

According to investigators, a man pulled out a rifle during an argument with his teenage son and fired about six to seven times at the teen while the officer was returning home in the area. While the officer confronted the shooter and attempted to take him into custody, they ended up exchanging gunfire with each other. Authorities said the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle.

No injuries were reported in both incidents.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has been contacted and the suspect, whose identity has not been released, is urged to turn himself in to authorities.

Investigators have not said if the suspect and Humble ISD officer know each other.
