Man fatally shot in front of northeast Houston taco stand possibly due to drug deal

HOUSTON – A man was shot and killed in front of a taco stand in northeast Houston on Tuesday, possibly due to a drug transaction, Houston police said.

The shooting happened around 10:28 p.m. in the 8800 block of Mesa Drive.

A man in his 20s was in his car with his cousin. Then, he got out to approach the taco stand, and the male suspect was already there.

The men spoke, and it appeared they were about to get into a fight. Officers said the suspect then pulled out a gun and shot the other man and left.

The victim tried to run away and fell. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they obtained security video footage that showed a drug transaction may have happened between the two men before the shooting, and drugs were found inside the victim’s vehicle. Authorities are still looking into the case and searching for the suspect.
