HOUSTON – The second suspect has been arrested in the deadly shooting of a man back in August 2022.

Markell Hardyway, 19, has since been charged with murder. He is the second suspect charged in the case. Another suspect, a 15-year-old, was charged with murder in April.

The teens are accused of fatally shooting 18-year-old Patrick Jackson Jr. on Aug. 7, 2022.

What happened

Houston police responded to reports at 2 p.m. of a shooting at an apartment complex located in the 9550 block of Deering Drive.

When officers arrived, they found Jackson shot multiple times and unresponsive on the sidewalk inside the complex. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Jackson and another suspect got into an argument and shots were fired, killing Jackson.

Hardyway and the 15-year-old were both identified as suspects in the shooting. Hardyway, who was in custody in the Fort Bend County Jail on an unrelated charged, admitted his involvement in the incident and was charged.
