Man rams vehicle into PetSmart, leads officers on chase in west Houston, HPD says

HOUSTON – A man is in custody after police said he rammed his vehicle into the entrance of a Petsmart, then led officers on a chase in west Houston Monday.

It happened on Taylor Street near Katy Freeway around 9:50 p.m.

As PetSmart employees began recording him, officers said the man got upset and tried running them over.

Police said the man took off from PetSmart, crashed into a pickup truck, and then noticed an HPD patrol vehicle. Officers said the man decided to put his car in reverse while giving inappropriate gestures to officers. While in reverse, police said the suspect slammed into the HPD patrol vehicle and then fled again.

Eventually, investigators said the suspect got out of his car near I-10 and Washington and hid behind a building adjacent to the Scottish Inn before being caught by an HPD K-9.

Police believe the suspect is either on drugs, or having a mental crisis, and CIT units are working to determine the type of help he needs.
