Police: Homeowner shoots would-be car burglar in face in southwest Houston

HOUSTON – Families in southwest Houston woke up to find cars broken into up and down their street.

“Oh my god," said Nicole, one of the victims.

Nicole’s window was busted out and her white-and-pink car ransacked. A lot of her belongings, even her Social Security card, were strewn on Bunker Ridge Road. She said she was shocked because her iPad and guns were still inside the car, but her credit cards and another gun were missing.

Her friend’s truck, parked right next to hers, was also burglarized.

“I don’t leave anything in there of value, but it’s the whole point of someone breaking into my stuff,” said Dee, another victim.

Down the road, a homeowner named Winston was also victimized.

“I was not happy at all," Winston said. "I came out to go to work. I wasn’t expecting this at all.”

It’s a crime spree that ended around the corner at this home on Ridgerod and Hiram Clarke on Wednesday morning, when an armed homeowner caught the three crooks in the act, police said.

Police said two of the burglars ran away.

“The third suspect came towards the homeowner with some kind of weapon in his hand," said Lt. Larry Crowson. "At that point, the homeowner discharged his weapon one time."

That man was hit in the face, and is expected to recover.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
