Gunman on the run after deadly shooting near Walmart entrance in SE Houston

HOUSTON – A 21-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday outside a Walmart near Hobby Airport.

Investigators said the victim was found shot just before 10 p.m. inside a red Cadillac near the front of the store.

Police said the 21-year-old man was with a friend inside the car parked near the front doors of the Walmart just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday when he was shot multiple times.

Police said his friend ran away uninjured. The 21-year-old man was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Witnesses said they saw two men driving away in a white Chrysler Sedan.

Police said that according to surveillance video, two other men got in the car and soon after, gunfire erupted.

Police are looking through surveillance video to identify the person who pulled the trigger.

“I wouldn’t want to go outside at night thinking I might get shot. It’s not safe,” David Dahlen said.

That was what frequent customers said at the store on Rowlett near the Gulf Freeway.

“It’s scary. I'm constantly having to look behind me when I'm walking home at 8 o’clock at night, in the mornings,” Stella Ochoa said.

Even more alarming, during the investigation, officers took an empty baby seat out of the red Cadillac.

Other customers are also on the lookout, now even more.

“I’ll probably be more aware of my surroundings, more than anything else, probably shop more during the day,” Dahlen said.

Walmart media relations referred all questions to police and said the company doesn't release surveillance video to the public.

Police only had a vague description of the suspects, apart from that they left in a white Chrysler sedan.

Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call Crime Stoppers.
