Group robs woman at gunpoint in west Houston

HOUSTON – Surveillance video details a robbery in which a group of apparent teenagers held a gun to a Houston woman's head.

"I was more angry than anything," Sara Ludwig said.

"They're kids. They couldn't have been more than 16," Ludwig said. "I think the youngest was maybe 14."

The video she obtained from her apartment complex shows the armed robbery in broad daylight the day after Thanksgiving.

The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. inside the Mandalay at Shadowlake Apartments on Oxford Park Drive in the Westchase District near Westheimer and Dairy Ashford.

Ludwig said she was struck by how disorganized the four young crooks appeared to be.

"You can see them taking off their shoes, taking off their shirt, putting on their shoes," Ludwig said. "The guy who had his arm around me with the gun put on the mask after I'd already seen his face."

The video showed the robbers walk through the complex -- then spot Ludwig leaving her apartment.

Almost immediately, one puts on a mask and they chase down Ludwig. The robber with the mask holds her with one arm. In his other hand is what looks like a gun held to her head.

Ludwig dropped her tablet while another robber shuffled through her purse.

The other two served as lookouts.

The first two pulled off her headphones, grabbed the tablet, and took off. Ludwig then walked back to her apartment to call police, as the teens ran and eventually jumped a fence to get away.

But Ludwig doesn't want them to escape justice.

"They're children that are gonna grow up to be adult criminals," Ludwig said. "And they're gonna get better at it and I don't want that on my conscience."

There were four thieves involved in Ludwig's robbery. She is hoping someone recognizes the crooks and contacts police.
