Driver strikes several cars at red light, dies at hospital

HOUSTON – A male driver is dead after striking multiple cars at a red light in north Harris County.

The crash happened around 1:45 a.m. at the intersection of North Gessner and Beltway 8, officials with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

A Toyota Camry was stopped in the center lane at the red light, facing westbound on the service road and a Toyota Sienna was stopped to the right of the Camry, investigators said.

A Chevy Colorado was stopped behind the Camry, also in the center lane, investigators said.

A green Buick LeSabre traveled westbound and approached the light, struck the back of the Colorado and pushed it into the back of the Camry, investigators said.

The LeSabre rotated after the first collision and struck the Sienna, investigators said. It does not appear that the driver was speeding, investigators said.

The driver of the LeSabre was extracted from the vehicle by the fire department and transported to a local hospital where he died.

Investigators said all other drivers appeared to be in stable condition.
