Car pulled from bayou with body inside days after witnesses saw crash

HOUSTON – A car was pulled from the bayou with a body inside on Sunday, according to the Houston Police Department.

The HPD dive team and crash scene investigators were looking for a person and a vehicle that went into Buffalo Bayou near 3601 Memorial Drive around 7:40 p.m. Friday, according to witnesses.

The witnesses said they saw a man drive off of the road, hop the curb, drive through the grass down the embankment and into the bayou below. They pulled over and ran to help, but were unsuccessful.

Investigators said the victim was driving a four-door, dark colored car when he lost control of the vehicle.

Witnesses said there appeared to be only one man in the car — the driver, and they have no idea what caused him to veer off the road.

Some lanes of Memorial Drive were shut down on Friday.
